Co-Education at Cothill
Cothill will begin the move to co-education from September 2025.
Cothill will evolve into a co-educational day, flexi and full boarding school, helping to engender equality, creativity and curiosity in our classrooms from an early age. Initially, the admissions process for girls will focus on Years 3-5 in September 2025 and, as these year groups move up, the school will gradually become fully co-educational. A girls' boarding facility is planned to open in September 2025 and the school expects to have girls in all year groups from September 2028. Our decision to admit both boys and girls is in response to a number of factors.
-The general trend for co-education in both Prep boarding and day schools in the UK.
-The need to guarantee the long-term success of the school. It is clear that for Prep schools the demand for single-sex boarding is declining, and we expect that to continue.
-Enquiries from existing parents who have asked us to consider admitting their daughters.
Across the sector, independent schools are embracing change, be it in shape, size or structure. By responding to the needs of our prospective parents, we are ensuring the school's continued success in a changing market. The school's much-loved ethos, values and educational aims, developed over the past 150 years, will remain unchanged. We will continue to ensure each child is individually known, appreciated and valued. Our current parents tell us they set great store by the family-friendly feel of Cothill and its strong sense of community, and we believe that will be further enhanced by the move to co-education.
